Who Should Get Tested

Amorvard Foundation

Folks who have symptoms of COVID-19.

Folks who have had close contact (within 6 feet for a total of 15 minutes or more) with someone with confirmed COVID-19.

Folks who have taken part in activities that put them at higher risk for COVID-19 because they cannot socially distance as needed, such as travel, attending large social or mass gatherings, or being in crowded indoor settings.

Folks who have been asked or referred to get testing by their healthcare provider, local external icon or state health department.

Not everyone will get tested. If you do get tested, you should self-quarantine/isolate at home pending test results and follow the advice of your health care provider.

Amorvard Foundation

COVID -19 protocols are taken seriously the world over. Various Countries are doing everything possible to flatten the curve or stop the spread of the virus. Restrictions are placed on travellers to this effect.

As one of the preconditions for travels , your test result must be negative

Did you just test positive in the midst of your travel plans? Relax! The world is not going to crumble on you. The virus is not a death sentence. Meanwhile, you have to be proactive so that your condition does not degenerate to a severe case.

Here are pieces of advice that could be of help to you:

  • Observe the COVID – 19 protocols as usual. Do not drop the ball.
  • Stay at home or self isolate while you reschedule your flight or shelve your travel plans. This is not a time to unwind, groove or party. You don’t want to spread the virus
  • Consult your doctor. Vaccines are now available. Go get a jab.
  • Eat food, fruits and vegetables that will boost your immune system.
  • You can complement with food supplements for vital vitamins and minerals.
  • Take a walk in the sun for between 20 and 30 minutes daily, especially in the morning. Your exposure to sunlight could help you heal fast because the vitamin D derived from it, is an immune booster.
  • When you feel well after 14 days, go and repeat the test in order to know your status.

Above all, remember your creator and say your prayers for health and cure. Certainly, not your last prayers.

Five food that help a COVID -19 patient to heal fast

Really, it’s not funny when diagnosed patients say things like ” I am scared , I eat right , I don’t understand why I have COVID-19 , it shouldn’t be me because I do everything right , I don’t know what to eat anymore ! ” While this may sound like someone is really scared and troubled , we should all not forget that,

COVID -19 is a strain of flu. A viral infection that is ravaging the World. It’s easily contracted if your immunity is compromised. It’s therefore, pertinent for you to eat healthy in order to boost your immune system if you contract the disease.

The five most likely food that can help you heal fast if you already have a diagnosis of COVID-19 are :

Garlic : It’s well known as a natural antibiotic in spite of its odour, which is offensive to some people. It reduces inflammation, boost immune system and enhances healing. Our forefathers say 12 cloves a day could make strong positive impact on one’s health.

Ginger : Ginger like garlic is also an immune booster with its medicinal properties which may fight harmful bacteria and viruses including COVID -19 virus. It’s high in antioxidants and anti – inflammatory compounds too.

Pineapples : They’re rich in antioxidants and vitamins, which may reduce the risk of diseases. They also have anti- inflammatory properties that strengthen the immunity.

Fish : It’s a good source of vitamin D. Vitamin D is essential in the fight against COVID -19.

Eggs : Eggs are very rich in nutrients/vitamins. The healing impact is enormous.

The enlisted food and more could do a whole lot of good to a COVID -19 patient and they could also serve as defence mechanism against the virus.

How do you protect yourself from coronavirus if you have cancer ?

The extremely vulnerable people with cancer are more at risk of being seriously ill if they develop the COVID-19 infection.

If you are extremely vulnerable, you should stay alert to prevent yourself from getting ill. Stay aware of the numbers of infections in your area and follow the advice for extremely vulnerable people in your part of the country. In general, you should:

  • Stay at home
  • limit contact with others outside your household
  • Follow strict social distancing – stay at least 2 metres apart or 1 metre with a face covering
  • Wash your hands regularly or use a hand sanitizer alcohol gel
  • Wear a face covering inside shops and on public transport, unless you are exempt

According to the Nigeria Center for Disease Control , right now in Nigeria, the numbers are increasing ! People in this group will need to follow particular measures called shielding. Your GP or healthcare team might ask you to shield again depending on your situation.

Cancer patients in the extremely vulnerable group include those:

  • having chemotherapy
  • having radical radiotherapy for lung cancer
  • Those with cancer of the blood or bone marrow such as leukaemia, lymphoma or myeloma who are at any stage of treatment
  • If you are having immunotherapy or other continuing antibody treatments for cancer
  • If you are having other targeted cancer treatments which can affect the immune system, such as protein kinase inhibitors or PARP inhibitors
  • Those who have had bone marrow or stem cell transplants in the last 6 months, or who are still taking immunosuppression drugs

If you are unsure what treatment you are having and whether you are in one of these groups and you are finding it difficult to speak to your care team you can use our patient navigator service , for guidance and support.

Your provider will most likely recommend self-isolation until at least 10 days have passed since you first tested positive assuming you have not developed symptoms within that time.

The decision to stop home isolation should be left to healthcare providers and local health authorities

While at home please eat healthy , maintain proper hygiene and follow through with your doctors recommendations.
